Dr. Yazeed Alsharedah is an academic, researcher, and geotechnical engineering professional whose work bridges geotechnical engineering, mining, renewable energy, and sustainable infrastructure.
He is an Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering at Qassim University, specializing in geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering. His research focuses on the behavior of foundations and geomaterials under complex loading and environmental conditions, with particular interests in offshore wind turbine foundations, mine tailings and tailings storage facilities, mine closure and rehabilitation, geohazards, soil–structure interaction, and sustainable geotechnical solutions.
Dr. Yazeed holds a Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering from Western University, Canada, where his doctoral research investigated innovative foundation systems for offshore wind turbines through physical modelling and numerical analysis. His graduate research has also addressed the engineering behavior and stabilization of mine tailings, contributing to his broader interest in the relationship between geotechnical engineering, natural resources, energy, and environmental sustainability.
With more than 14 years of combined academic and professional experience, Dr. Yazeed has worked across university research and education, engineering practice, and the mining sector. This combination has shaped an approach centered on translating scientific research into practical engineering solutions.
Beyond academia, he previously served as Director of Mine Closure and Rehabilitation at the Saudi Mining Services Company (ESNAD). In this role, he contributed to national efforts related to mine closure and rehabilitation, geohazard management, technical and environmental compliance, and the review of mining operations and closure obligations. His work supported the development of more sustainable approaches to mining and responsible resource development in Saudi Arabia.
His experience in the mining sector has provided him with a perspective that extends beyond individual engineering projects to the broader relationship between technical risk, environmental responsibility, regulation, economics, and long-term sustainability.
Alongside his academic and research activities, Dr. Yazeed provides specialized geotechnical engineering and advisory services, connecting advanced engineering analysis and research with real-world infrastructure, mining, foundation, and geoenvironmental challenges.
As an educator, Dr. Yazeed teaches and mentors undergraduate and graduate engineering students and supervises research in geotechnical engineering. He views knowledge transfer as an important part of engineering practice and is particularly interested in helping emerging engineers connect fundamental engineering principles with the increasingly complex challenges facing infrastructure, energy, and natural-resource development.
His research and professional interests increasingly converge around one central question:
How can geotechnical engineering enable the next generation of mining, energy, and infrastructure projects to become safer, more resilient, and more sustainable?

Dr. Yazeed serves as a Professional Member of the Arabian Association of Energy and Electricity (AEEE), under the umbrella of the Saudi Ministry of Energy. His involvement complements his academic and professional interests at the intersection of energy, engineering, mining, and sustainable infrastructure, bringing a geotechnical perspective to the broader dialogue surrounding the energy sector and its future development.
Yazeed serves as an arbitrator, providing expert judgment and technical insight in engineering, mining and construction-related topics.
At Prince Mugren University, Yazeed role as a board memebr of college of engineering advisory committee helps guides engineering curricula to produce future leaders equipped to advance the sector.
• Oversaw geohazard assessments and environmental risk mitigation strategies, ensuring alignment with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.
• Led the technical review of reinforced concrete (RC) studies with a total value exceeding SAR 1.3 billion, minimizing geoenvironmental risks.
• Spearheaded sustainable mining initiatives at ESNAD, contributing to the development of forward-looking policies within the Saudi mining sector.
Yazeed leads research grant projects at Qassim University and supervises master’s students, providing guidance to address research challenges and ensuring steady academic progress. He directs and oversees their development while actively contributing to both graduate and undergraduate teaching.
His teaching portfolio includes CEE 600 (Advanced Foundation Engineering), CE 363 (Foundation Engineering), Senior Design Project I and II, CE 285 (Introduction to Geotechnical Engineering), as well as foundational courses in Mathematics (Math 106) and Engineering Mechanics (Statics).
Yazeed conducted a series of experimental investigations on novel foundation systems for offshore wind turbines as part of his doctoral research at Western University, London, Ontario, Canada. His work combined advanced centrifuge modeling—undertaken as a visiting researcher at the University of Sheffield—with sophisticated finite element analysis to evaluate the performance of innovative foundation concepts.
Yazeed taught the Soil Mechanics Laboratory (CEE 3321/3322) for multiple semesters in collaboration with Dr. Sadrekarimi. He also contributed to teaching the Foundation Engineering course (CEE 4426) alongside Dr. Newson.
